Company History

Based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Hobbs International is a division of Hobbs and Associates, a private Canadian management consulting firm specializing in sustainable development since 1984. Our company brings together a multi-disciplinary group of professional consultants and expert staff who have worked in over 50 countries worldwide and speak a combined total of 16 languages. Disciplines represented by our management, staff and consultants include sociology, anthropology, psychology, education, law, geology, biology, environmental science, civil engineering, business management, accounting, economics, healthcare, and human resources management.

For the past twenty years, Hobbs and Associates has successfully provided strategic advice, technical analysis and management support to First Nations, Aboriginal, and developing communities across Canada. Our expertise and commitment have been instrumental in representing the needs of affected peoples with respect to large-scale resource and infrastructure projects. Hobbs and Associates has also excelled in providing advice and support concerning governance and community development. Our team of professionals has delivered multi-million dollar project work, from design and planning through implementation, monitoring and evaluation on behalf of community-based organizations, regional and national groups, indigenous peoples, all levels of government and their agencies, international public- and private-sector organizations, and civil society groups.

Today, the consultancy of Hobbs International reflects the cultural diversity of the communities we serve, and is sensitive to the gender, cultural, and environmental issues that influence the socio-economic development of these communities. We specialize in delivering a unique management approach for resolving all aspects of social impacts in development projects, including identification and assessment, regulatory and governance, consensus building and negotiation, environmental degradation, resettlement, compensation and benefits, employment and training, and program implementation, monitoring and evaluation. The Social Risk Management (SRM) process provides a turnkey alternative to the flawed piece-meal approach of engaging consultants to produce Social Impact Assessments, Resettlement Plans, Country Gender Assessments and Indigenous Peoples Development Plans.

Hobbs International also offers expert advice and services in a number of key areas of sustainable development. We have extensive knowledge and experience in Natural Resource Management, Fisheries and Aquatic Environment, Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, Privatization and Organizational Change, and Training and Institutional Capacity Building. We provide a holistic approach whereby sustainable development goals can be achieved by applying a combination of technical, socio-economic management, communications and human resource management expertise.
